3 killed, 3 others injured in incidents of lightning strike in UP's Mainpuri

Three people, including a woman, were killed and three others injured in separate lightning incidents in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district, police said in a report.

An ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh will be given to the bereaved families, said Additional District Magistrate Ramji Mishra.

Earlier on Tuesday, six people were killed and a child was injured after they were struck by lightning in the state's Azamgarh district.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the deaths that occurred in Azamgarh and Ghazipur districts due to lightning strikes. He ordered that proper lighting should be provided to the injured and expressed grief over those who died in the accidents.

In June, to prevent electrical accidents such as lightning strikes and electrocution,

the UP government issued a set of guidelines to department officials advising them to repair faulty power lines and also follow prescribed standards for maintenance.

In a notification, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) Chairman M Devraj issued guidelines to prevent accidents to external workers of the electricity department during the monsoon season and directed the officials to follow the guidelines.
